A new terminal in Durban will make package handling more effective for Volvo Group’s South Africa operations.
The terminal has been in operation since May 2011 and was officially opened in January this year. The local truck factory, Volvo Southern Africa (Pty), is the first customer to use its services. Other customers will come on-stream gradually.
"The terminal undertakes collection, consolidation, breakdown, re-distribution and minor repairs," says Keith Rylance, General Manager Volvo Logistics Southern Africa. "One benefit that has already been realised by the truck factory is better utilisation of yard space. This is a result of removing packaging materials from the yard, making it possible to enhance materials planning for the line supply. Thanks to the terminal, the local factory will realise tangible cost savings in 2012."
